I’m Alex Ziwahatan — a fighter for Oregon's future, a believer in its people, and a builder shaped by the generations who came before me.
My roots here run deep. It was my grandfather’s grandmother’s grandfather who first came to Oregon in 1846, settling in what is now Cheshire, just outside of Eugene. Though, my maternal grandfather — the man who partly raised me — was born and raised in Wendling, once a proud logging town and now a ghost town lost to history. He became a finish carpenter — the best in the business — and his work shone with a level of craftsmanship, pride, and heart that you don't see much anymore. He was never rich with money, but he was rich with love, wisdom, and a devotion to family that shaped everything I believe about life and leadership. This campaign is in his honor.
I carry him with me in everything I do. His hands built homes. His love built a family. His lessons built a foundation I stand on every day.
And now, I want to build something that would make him proud — an Oregon where families have homes, dreams have a future, and hard work once again leads to dignity.
I'm not running to manage decline.
I'm running to honor that legacy — and to lead Oregon into the golden age of prosperity, opportunity, and hope.
My plan is bold and fully funded: ending homelessness through the creation of multiple Hope Meadows communities, eliminating property taxes to save families thousands of dollars every year, expanding free public transportation, launching a new economy built on innovation and green technology, and making Oregon a state that no one has to leave to find a better life.
I believe no family should be left behind.
I believe no child should grow up homeless.
I believe hard work should be rewarded, not punished.
And I believe the best way to honor the past is by building a future worthy of it.
This isn’t just a campaign to me. This is family. This is home. This is legacy.
It’s my turn to give back to the city that gave my family a place to dream, build, and belong.
If you believe Oregon's best days are still ahead —
then stand with me.
Vote for Alex Ziwahatan.
Together, we rise.
Alexander Ziwahatan is a healthcare professional and entrepreneur with deep generational roots in Eugene—his family settled in Lane County in Cheshire in 1846 after arriving by wagon train. Raised with the values of service, responsibility, and resilience, Alexander has spent a career in public service as a healthcare professional.
With firsthand experience in both public and private, he understands the urgent need for policies that actually work—not more political grandstanding. He’s seen how rising costs, government mismanagement, and party infighting have left everyday Oregonians behind.
That’s why he’s running for Governor of Oregon as an Independent—to restore balance, empower communities, and protect the state he calls home.
He’s not a politician. He’s a builder, a reformer, and a voice for the future. And if elected, Alexander would also make history as the first openly gay man ever elected to be Governor of Oregon.
He’s stepping up now—to Save Eugene.
Ziwahatan brings a history of service shaped outside of politics—through years of work in business development and healthcare. He’s not a career politician, but a builder who understands how to fix broken systems and deliver real-world solutions.
With a career focused on expanding access to care, improving outcomes for vulnerable communities, and creating sustainable operations, Alexander knows what it takes to protect both people and progress. He is now stepping forward to protect his home from political gridlock and economic stagnation.
He’s committed to fair pay, clean energy, strong schools, and safe communities—not through rhetoric, but through reform.
Ziwahatan is proudly rooted in Lane County, where his family’s Oregon story began nearly 200 years ago. Outside of his work in healthcare and business, Alexander is deeply committed to family, heritage, and service.
He is married to his husband, Josh Chase, a retired editor and creative spirit with a passion for the arts. The two were married in 2020, and together they share a grounded life built on mutual respect, resilience, and laughter. They are both of Jewish heritage, but are not practitioners - Alex is spiritual, but not religious.
Alexander also serves as Chief of the Sakochee Tribe, a Native American descendant tribe composed of mixed-blood families from multiple Indigenous nations. In his role as Chief, he advocates for cultural recognition, tribal identity, and the protection of ancestral memory.
He finds strength in his roots, meaning in his relationships, and purpose in protecting the land and people he calls home.
