OPEN LETTER

 To the Honorable Mayors, Senators, and Representatives of Oregon and the Governors of California, Washington, and Idaho:

My name is Alexander Ziwahatan, and I am running to serve as the next Governor of Oregon. I write this letter not only as a candidate, but as a descendant of Oregon pioneers—my family arrived here by wagon train in 1846 and settled in Lane County. My roots are here, deep in the soil, shaped by Oregon's beauty and resilience.

Over the past days, I have reached out to leaders across the state and region to ask for your support, collaboration, and shared vision for what Oregon and the greater West can become. Today, I publicly reaffirm that vision in full, laying out the issues that matter to me and to the people I seek to represent.

THE SOLAR CITY PROJECT
At the core of my platform is the Solar City Project: a bold, statewide clean energy initiative that will convert Oregon's desert and rural lands into centers of solar power production, battery storage, and microgrid infrastructure. It will create over 20,000 permanent high-paying jobs, expand broadband access, and include workforce housing, infrastructure upgrades, and vocational training centers. Households will receive up to $350/month in free electricity credits, significantly reducing cost-of-living burdens.

FARMERS, RANCHERS, AND RESOURCE RIGHTS
I will fight tooth and nail to cut income and business taxes in half for Oregon's farmers and ranchers. I will protect and expand grazing rights on public lands. The state must stop punishing the people who feed and sustain us.

VETERANS
Veterans will be a cornerstone of my administration. My plan includes guaranteed housing, 24/7 access to mental health services, $250 monthly stipends for veterans earning under $80,000, job training pipelines, and a 50% reduction in state income taxes for all who served.

HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS
We must address Oregon's housing crisis through both public and private solutions. I support managed camps with mandatory addiction and mental health treatment, increased shelter capacity, city-run housing, and strong incentives for private affordable housing construction. Encampments cannot continue to overrun public spaces.

TAX REFORM
I support a 3% flat income tax for individuals earning under $80K and 5% above that, with the elimination of property taxes statewide. Corporate taxes would be set at 20%, with special offsetting credits for those investing in Oregon's infrastructure and labor force.

FREE CHILDCARE, COLLEGE, AND ELECTRICITY
I support universal free childcare for families earning under $120K/year, tuition-free public college and vocational training for all Oregonians, and up to $350/month in free electricity per household funded through clean energy surplus and smart taxation.

THE FUTURE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
I support increased police funding for gear, vehicles, and mental health response teams. All officers should wear body cameras. I also support a separate civilian oversight board to ensure accountability. Law enforcement and reform are not mutually exclusive.

IMMIGRATION AND BORDERS
I support strong border security, an end to sanctuary policies, and legal pathways to citizenship that take no longer than one year. I support deportation of undocumented individuals with criminal records and a legal immigration process that costs no more than $5,000.

HEALTHCARE AND MENTAL HEALTH
Healthcare is a human right. I support universal state-run healthcare with an option for private providers, and the creation of recovery and mental health centers accessible to all. We must invest in wraparound services for struggling families and communities.

ENVIRONMENT AND LAND USE
I support clean energy, public land conservation, water access rights for agricultural use, and wildfire prevention strategies that include thinning, prescribed burns, and modern forestry practices.

FARMERS AND FISHERMEN

I will fight tooth and nail to get the income taxes and business taxes of farmers and fishermen cut in half. We should lift up those who are our backbone.

A CALL FOR UNITY
I am reaching out to mayors, county commissioners, and governors not as rivals but as partners. We share the same rivers, the same forests, the same skies—and often, the same struggles. Let us work together to build a resilient, prosperous West. Oregon cannot rise in isolation; we rise together.
